How to cook Steel Cut Oats in the Instant Pot

If you've not cooked steel cut oats as a batch before, it's really simple. Just cook them as a basic recipe in the Instant Pot with water and salt then add all your extras, including a splash of dairy or nut milk and your favourite toppers, when you do the reheating in the microwave in the morning. This prevents the dreaded Instant Pot Burn Notice and also means the Oats are food safe for a longer storage time.

Notes

  • The ratio I use for steel cut oats is always the same 4:1 Water to Oats. So however much you need to make just use this ratio and you're all set.
  • If you find you get a burn notice (especially if using an Instant Pot Pro which cooks hotter) , just make sure to click off the 'keep warm' function when you set up your programme. The residual heat keeps everything nice and warm without it and it saves a little energy too.
  • The oatmeal will be fine in the fridge for 3-4 days. Just decant and reheat in the microwave.
